Social Prescribing
This social prescribing project is a collaboration between GCK’s Good Food Box organic veg scheme and Lonsdale Medical Center, funded by the Brent Health Matters Community Fund. It’s designed to address health inequities in West London by supporting diverse residents dealing with chronic, often diet-related illnesses to begin improving their wellbeing through access to seasonal, organic, nutritious, and delicious produce!
The GFB are working with the Lonsdale Medical Center to prescribe small food bags (with or without fruit) to their patients at no expense. Patients will also have the opportunity to socialise with fellow locals through the St Luke’s Church bag collection point, which coincides with GCK’s free meals every Wednesday evening. For those who are learning about cooking, we’re running a GFB cooking workshop to kick off the project, and providing weekly recipes via email newsletter or for pick up at St Luke’s Church. Short recipe films are also on our website and social media pages!
This social prescribing project will provide a pathway for folks to begin regularly receiving Good Food Boxes beyond the trial if they’d like. Patients can also get involved in growing food in GCK’s South Kilburn urban garden (Wednesday and Saturday mornings), which is an important cultural education space for cultivating neighbourhood wellbeing.
