Community Voice
The Granville garden is a very valuable space for our students. It offers a calm, caring environment that supports their wellbeing and emotional growth. It gives young people a chance to step away from normal school routines, reduce stress, and reconnect with nature, something that is known to improve mental health. The garden is a safe, reflective place where students can talk openly, build trust with adults, and feel more connected to the school community.
The garden is also important for careers education. It gives students practical experience with sustainability, gardening, and caring for the environment, helping them learn useful skills for these growing areas of work. The teamwork in the garden helps students build key skills like cooperation, problem-solving, communication, and responsibility. For many, it opens up new interests and possible career paths they may not have explored before.
Overall, the Granville garden is much more than a green space, it supports students’ wellbeing, learning, and future opportunities.

The Granville Rec is such an important and memorable place for our students. Once they’ve visited the garden students continue to speak about it for a long time after, and often approach me to ask ‘when will we go to the garden again?’ or to share a memory from their trips to the garden. They have benefited from gardening sessions there over several years, and not only does it teach them about gardening but also provides them with a calm space where they can connect to nature, work together as a team and get time out of the classroom to experience some practical hands-on learning.
